Images: my youth team packing and organizing the boxes of food for our Haitian ministry sites. These fotos are hilarious. Every two weeks I am called upon to rally up volunteers to work long hours in the Convention office-turned warehouse to prepare for trips to Haiti.
Written February 23:
I was asked to help fortify a trip to Haiti. "PLEASE come with us, we NEED YOU." I was asked by the Dominican Baptist Convention's leader for Social Action, who made three phone calls to ask special permission for clearance allowing me to GO.
I was allowed to choose teammates for the trip, so I strategically asked Elvis, and Osiris, and Aurora, three incredible youth involved in youth ministry in the DR, to work with me.
I was just told yesterday I was on this team, so I have no idea what this looks like logistically, which signals to the way things are run here: complete lack of information coupled with caos.
Pray for me. We will be sleeping in one of the churches in Puert-au-Prince and working with this congregation. Food distribution and a medical clinic are the only formal parts of the agenda. I was asked yesterday to concentrate on youth and children. We have no materials, a language barrier, and exhaustion on our side. On Christ's side, we have Peace, Joy, Love, and HOPE. And a soccer-ball I just happened to pick up last week. And a few cans of vienna sausage and another few cans of tuna. Cooking will be...impossible.
I love you all. The Lord is good to those who trust in Him.
blessings until we speak again,
allison
